About Jill


Jill Stewart is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Prior to this position, Dr. Stewart served as Principal Investigator at a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center of Excellence for Oceans and Human Health in Charleston, SC.

Current research projects include evaluation of water quality associated with (1) land application of waste products and (2) urbanization on a watershed-scale.  An expert in microbial source tracking, Dr. Stewart contributed to a guide document on this topic for the US Environmental Protection Agency.  She has also been instrumental in planning workshops and conference symposia on topics pertinent to environmental health microbiology.

Dr. Stewart received her BA from the University of Virginia, and her MS and PhD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
